As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to advance, we expect several capabilities to become standard across the industry. Take Vivint’s Smart Sentry feature, for example. Vivint’s security cameras automatically light up and tell lurkers that they’re being recorded when the motion sensor is triggered. We expect similar features to come from other security providers as well.
Other upcoming features may include automatic license plate recognition. Rather than trying to zoom in on your security footage to read the plate, cameras may automatically recognize and record the plate number.
Additionally, we think security providers will continue to improve third-party integrations. As smart devices replace more and more of our household items, home security systems will need to improve their ability to seamlessly connect with a variety of products.

As technology advances, home security systems are finding new ways to tighten security – both for your home and for its software. Contactless technology is one major step in the right direction.
Already, some smart door locks use biometric technology, such as fingerprint scans and facial recognition software, to authorize users. Iris scans are another secure way to vet visitors. Homes with smart home ecosystems can also use voice commands to control numerous devices.

Rather than forcing consumers to pay high prices for all of their equipment, they can choose which products are worth the additional expense. In 2023, we predict that more home security providers will follow this model. These companies will develop more affordable versions of their luxury systems, giving customers the ability to prioritize certain features, devices, and services.
Along with producing cheaper versions of their products, these security providers will push DIY installation with the option to pay extra for professional set-up. Similarly, you may see more systems offer both professional monitoring and self-monitoring.
Advancements in sensor technology
Sensors are the basis for any home security system. They’ve evolved from wired to wireless devices, but we haven’t seen many more advancements in door/window sensors. In the coming years, we can expect to see stronger tamper-proof features for these devices.
Additionally, other security sensors will advance in the near future. By integrating facial recognition in motion sensors, for instance, security providers can decrease the number of false alarms. Some sensors may even be programmed with voice recognition. You can then use commands to disarm these sensors and prevent false alarms.
Smart emergency alarms will also continue to advance. More companies will offer smoke and CO detectors that can seamlessly and wirelessly integrate with the traditional alarms throughout the home. This technology will keep families safer and make systems more efficient.
