Vivint’s free security consultation

Vivint is committed to giving customers the best experience and security from its systems. The provider guarantees great results by starting the customer experience with a no-cost security consultation.

The company knows that you don’t have the experience and knowledge needed to design the perfect system. It also understands that every home and customer has their own needs.

To make sure that you get the right devices and plan for your home, a Vivint security expert will come by to evaluate your security needs.

During this consultation, you can share what you’re hoping to get from your home security system. The technician can then guide you to the right equipment.

Next, they will locate the best placements for each sensor, camera, and security device. Always ready to go the extra mile, your Vivint security expert will also explain why they think these spots are best.

You can use this visit to ask questions about Vivint, your equipment, and security in general.

The technician may even make suggestions for add-on devices that will make your system stronger or more convenient. Though you don’t have to purchase this additional equipment, you may get insights that you didn’t consider before.

Vivint’s professional installation service

Now that you’ve finalized your security system, you can order your equipment. During this process, you will also select a date and time for your professional installation. The installer will arrive within a specific service window, which you’ll be given in advance.

Vivint requires that an authorized contract signer be present during the appointment, so make sure you and/or any other adults living in the home are available. The time the installation takes will vary depending on the size and scope of your home and system, so plan for it to take a few hours.

Unlike some security providers, Vivint doesn’t use third-party technicians to install its equipment. Every installer is hired by the company, meaning they have to meet its high standards for quality and customer service.

You can trust that your technician will install your system correctly. They are also there to answer any questions and make sure you’re fully happy with their service. Make the most of this luxurious service and don’t be afraid to speak up when needed.

Given Vivint’s extensive range of security equipment, every customer’s installation experience may be different. We’ve detailed the process for every device Vivint offers below to help you know what to expect.

Smart Hub control panel

This touchscreen device is the brain of your security system. Since you will use it to arm/disarm your system, adjust settings, and check video feeds, it’s important to install it in a central location.

You know your home and routines best. The installer will find a good place to put your control panel, but you can always request a more convenient location.

The Smart Hub needs to be hardwired into your home for power, but the wires will be hidden within the wall to provide a seamless, impressive look. The installer will need to drill a hole into the wall to wire the device in.

Door/window sensors

Every Vivint system includes sensors for your doors and window. These small, two-piece sensors have a peel-and-stick adhesive, so it won’t take long to install them.

The technician will make sure that each sensor is in the best place to detect a break-in quickly. If you don’t want sensors for all of your windows and doors, they will also make sure the most vulnerable entries are covered.

Recessed door sensors

These sensors work the same as typical door/window sensors, but their design requires a different installation method.

Since one part of the sensor will need to be placed on the inside of the doorframe, with the other on the door, the installer will have to drill a hole into the doorframe and then screw the sensor in over it.

Once placed, the sensor is discrete and hard to notice, preventing tampering.

Glass break sensor

One way to get around door and window sensors is to break the glass. Burglars can then enter without activating the sensors. A glass break sensor uses sound frequencies to detect the sound of glass breaking, alerting you to any intruders that try to enter this way.

Your technician will install this sensor in a room with a lot of windows or a sliding glass door.  Placing it on the ceiling or a wall in the room allows it to detect the glass breaking on any of the entries in the room. It’s important to put this device in the right place, so the professional install is a significant benefit.

Motion sensor

Motion sensors help you catch intruders that have found a way to enter your home without tripping other parts of your security system.

Installing this sensor in a central location with a clear view of the front entry is the best option. Your installer will find the ideal spot and mount the motion sensor up high, usually around seven feet up. This ensures that it can detect motion from any area in the room.

Though your motion sensor isn’t tiny, it’s designed to be easy to overlook. This appearance helps prevent tampering.

Vivint also equips its motion sensors with a Pet Detection setting. If you have pets that move freely around the home while you’re away, particularly if they’re large, this feature minimizes false alarms.

Before the technician installs the motion sensor, you can use the toggle on the back to lower the Pet Detection sensitivity.

Carbon monoxide detector

If you are upgrading your home’s CO sensor to Vivint’s smart option, your installer will replace the old unit with a new one.

For this safety sensor, it’s important to install it in a location that allows it to detect carbon monoxide as quickly as possible. If the technician thinks the old sensor’s location wasn’t good enough, they may suggest a new location.

Once the detector is installed, Vivint will also connect it to your Smart Hub to make sure it properly integrates with your smart home network.

Smoke detector

The installation process for this sensor is almost identical to the one used for the CO detector. After finding the best location, removing the old unit, and installing the new smoke detector, the installer will connect it to your control panel and smart system.

Flood sensor

There are many places in your home that may experience damaging water leaks. The Vivint technician will identify any vulnerabilities and install these small flood sensors in each area. These devices are automatically connected to your system, so you will get a notification if any water is detected where it shouldn’t be.

Under toilets and sinks, near washing machines, by air conditioners, and in the basement are the most common locations.

You can also choose to place flood sensors near your pipes. Along with water detection, these devices monitor the temperature. If the temperature drops, the sensors will send an alert through the app to help you prevent frozen and burst pipes.

Ping Indoor Camera

Out of all of your Vivint devices, this is one of the easiest ones to install. The camera comes with a 12-foot power cord, so you will need to place it near an outlet.

If you have a shelf, table, or other suitable piece of furniture, you can ask the installer to set it up there. They will make sure that the placement provides a good view of the room and other visible parts of your home.

Vivint Indoor Camera

The Ping Indoor Camera has a swivel base plate that can turn up to 90 degrees, so you can also choose to mount it to the wall. Be sure to tell the installer if this is what you’d prefer.

During the installation, the technician will make sure that the camera’s angle offers the best view.

Outdoor Camera Pro

The Ping Indoor Camera might be the easiest to install, but your outdoor cameras will undoubtedly be the hardest.

Vivint designed the Outdoor Camera Pro with a hybrid wired connection to provide uninterrupted power and wireless benefits. It connects to the Wi-Fi through a PoE Wi-Fi bridge, using this set-up to stay connected to your Smart Hub and the rest of your security system.

It also uses a wired power cable that plugs into an outlet. You won’t need to worry about changing the batteries on any of your outdoor cameras.

To install the device, your technician will mount the camera and then drill a hole into the wall for the combination ethernet cable and power cord. This is a fairly time-intensive process, but it guarantees that your live video feed will load faster, have a clearer resolution, and upload in as close to real-time as possible.

Another perk of Vivint’s professional installation service is your technician’s experience. They will put the camera in place correctly on the first try, saving time and making sure they only have to drill one hole to get it up and running.

Doorbell Camera Pro

Your video doorbell will replace your existing doorbell. Vivint’s video doorbell is one of the smallest on the market, so you won’t need to worry that it will overwhelm your front entry.

After removing the old device, the installer will wire the smart doorbell camera into the doorbell wiring to provide power. Don’t want to wire it in? No problem. Just tell the installer that you want to keep the device wireless and run it off of battery power. You will have to keep up with battery changes to make sure your device has the power it needs.

Vivint’s Doorbell Camera Pro does ring your doorbell when pressed, so your technician will add a digital doorbell chime to the old doorbell’s chime box.

Smart thermostat

Vivint’s home automation integrations have pushed this security provider to the top of the market. If you choose to add smart devices to your security system, the installer will also install and integrate them with your network.

The Vivint Smart Thermostat, for example, will need to be connected to both your HVAC system and your security system. If you choose to use a Google Nest thermostat instead, it will also need to be integrated with these systems.

First, the installer will remove your old thermostat. They will then install the smart thermostat in its place, using the same connections to connect it to your air conditioning and heating system.

After this part of the install is complete, they will connect the thermostat to your Smart Hub control panel. Once it’s integrated with the smart home network, you can control it through the app or Smart Hub and create conditional actions that automate your cooling and heating.

Smart locks

Vivint integrates with Kwikset smart locks to give you remote awareness and control of your home’s locks.

After removing your current deadbolt, the installer will screw the new hardware into place. This device has a cable that must be carefully threaded through the hardware, so it’s best to leave the job to a professional. If you think you’ll want smart locks, we recommend including them in your initial package.

There are several pieces to install, including a battery pack and the new deadbolt, but it shouldn’t take the technician too long to do. Once the smart lock is in, you can set the user code you will use to unlock and lock the door.

Next, the technician will connect it to your Smart Hub to give you complete remote access.

Smart lighting

Philips Hue smart lighting is a great way to increase the convenience of your home. Thankfully, the installation process for these lights is also fairly easy.

First, you will need to show the installer which lights you want to replace, if you aren’t planning to cover the entire house. They will then replace the bulbs in each light with the smart lighting option.

If you want to include lamps in your smart lighting system, you can also use Vivint Smart Plugs to integrate them into your smart network.

These lights connect to your Smart Hub through a bridge that is plugged into an outlet and connected to Wi-Fi with a network cable. After this device is set up, you will need to make sure every smart light is switched on.

At this point, you can control and automate your lighting through the control panel or Vivint app.

Garage door control

Vivint’s garage door controller is another smart device that makes your daily life easier.

The installer will place the device on a wall in your garage. From there, it will communicate with your Smart Hub and the existing garage door opener. You can set conditional actions, such as adjusting the temperature when it opens, and integrate with Car Guard, Vivint’s vehicle tracking device.

Your guided system set-up

Vivint’s excellent service doesn’t stop after your devices are in place and running. Once your installer has everything set up, they will walk you through every part of your system.

First, you will get to watch a welcome video from Vivint’s CEO. The tech will also ask you to take a survey to rate their performance and efficiency.

Next, the installer will show you how your system operates. They will walk you through using the Smart Hub and mobile app to access and control your devices. Understanding how it all works can be overwhelming, so don’t be afraid to ask any questions you have about your plan or individual devices.

This is also an ideal time to share any concerns you have about your system. It’s better to make sure everything is set up the way you want it now, rather than having to deal with changes later.
